The FDA cleared San Diego-based Kyocera Medical Corp.’s Initia Total Hip System.

1. Initia features Kyocera Medical’s BIOCERAM AZU zirconia-toughened alumina ceramic femoral heads.

 

2. Surgeons may also purchase the system with cobalt chrome femoral heads, which are matched to cross-linked polyethylene acetabular liners.

 

3. The system is available in 16 taper-wedge stem sizes, with 12 of those available in the United States.

 

4. Kyocera Medical manufactures implantable systems and advanced ceramic components.
