In the United States, orthopedics sales were up 13.4 percent to $873 million and international orthopedics sales were up 8 percent to $755 million. The company’s recent acquisition of Synthes contributed 2.9 percent to overall worldwide operational sales growth. Earlier this year, Johnson & Johnson acquired Synthes for $19.7 billion in cash and stock. As part of the transaction, the company agreed to sell its trauma business to Biomet.
