The terms of the settlement must be approved in court, and individual payouts may or may not be awarded. Each patient could receive about $350,000 in compensation.
The hip device made its global market debut in 2003 and was recalled in 2010 after sharply increasing failure rates from metallic debris being released as the device wears. Approximately 93,000 patients globally received the implant.
