Japan Earthquake Expected to Negatively Impact Device Companies

The earthquake and tsunami in Japan could cause major sales disruptions for medical device companies, according to a Reuters news report.

Japan is a major market for many medical device companies, including Stryker Corp., for which Japan makes up approximately 10 percent of the medical device giant’s sales, according to the news report. Nine percent of Zimmer Holdings’ sales come from Japan.

The three device makers that are projected to take the biggest hit are heart valve manufacturer Edwards Lifesciences, Boston Scientific and Becton Dickinson, according to the news report.
