Spine surgeon Robert Masson, MD, performed the first reconstructive surgery with a mixed reality operating room at the Masson Spine Institute in Ocoee, Fla.
Dr. Masson used Expanded Existence's HoloOPS surgical system, which uses mixed reality and machine learning to create a "Surgical Metaverse," according to an Oct. 21 company news release. Dr. Masson is CEO and co-founder of Expanded Existence. The platform aims to enable the surgical team, as well as the surgeon.
Expanded Experience will choose five orthopedic facilities to participate in trials for the software in the near future.
