Ivan LaMotta, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon at Midlands Orthopedics & Neurosurgery in Columbia, S.C., has performed the first procedure in the U.S. using Medacta's MySpine Anchor, according to an Oct. 5 press release from the company.

MySpine Anchor is Medacta's solution for Sacro-iliac joint fixation to reduce lower back pain.

The MySpine Anchor guides are used to prepare S2AI and SI pilot holes based on 3D preoperative planning using a patient's anatomy.

"These patient-specific drill guides allow for the precise execution of the pre-planned S2AI, posterior SI, and sacral screw trajectories," Dr. LaMotta said in the release. "The generous footprint of the guides makes robust surface contact with the S1 and S2 dorsal elements, which allows the surgeon to place sacropelvic fixation and posterior sacroiliac stabilization in the most effective and efficient way, without the need for intraoperative navigation. A true paradigm change for complex spine surgery."
