Globus Medical CEO shift, new artificial disc data and more: 8 medtech notes

A milestone in an artificial disc trial and seven more updates from spine and orthopedic device companies in the last week:

1. A study published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine supports the effectiveness of NuVasive's Simplify cervical artificial disc at two levels compared to spinal fusion.

2. One hundred patients have been treated in an ongoing investigational device exemption clinical trial of Spineart USA's Baguera C cervical disc in the single level.

3. David Demski, CEO of Globus Medical, has resigned. Daniel Scavilla, the company's chief commercial officer, replaced him.

4. The first case with Medacta's MUST pedicle screw system and NextAR system was completed by Kevin McGuire, MD.

5. Medtronic promoted Laura Mauri, MD, to serve as chief scientific, medical and regulatory officer.

6. Bioventus intends to sell $415 million worth of senior notes in a private offering. The company plans to put the profits from the sale toward its acquisition of medical device company CartiHeal.

7. CTL Amedica was recently granted a U.S. patent for its Klimt expandable lumbar interbody fusion cage design.

8. More than 100 peer-reviewed articles have been published about NuVasive's Precice system for limb lengthening.
