Intuitive Surgical names Dr. Michael Friedman to board of directors: 4 things to know

Intuitive Surgical appointed Michael A. Friedman, MD, to its board of directors.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. Friedman was president and CEO of Duarte, Calif.-based City of Hope, a research, treatment and education institution.

 

2. From 1997 until 1999, Dr. Friedman served as acting commissioner and lead deputy commissioner of operations for the FDA.

 

3. He has also served on the board of directors of Celgene Corporation since February 2011 and of Smith & Nephew since April 2013.

 

4. Dr. Friedman earned a doctorate in medicine from the Austin-based University of Texas. He completed postdoctoral training at Palo Alto-based Stanford University and the National Cancer Institute.
