Here are four things to know:
1. The patent covers the combination of an intramedullary rod with cross fixation on end and a flexible bone screw on the other end for fracture fixation of the extremities.
2. Upon insertion of the implant into the bone, the rigid rod portion is designed to span and support the fracture and the flexible screw portion is intended to bend as needed to thread into the intramedullary canal to allow proper bone alignment and ensure length can be to be maintained throughout the healing process.
3. The FlexThread System received FDA 510(k) clearance for fibula and clavicle indications. FlexThread technology is in development for additional indications including fractures of the fifth metatarsal bone.
