Ingalls Memorial Hospital acquries Brainlab Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT technology

Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Ill., is the first hospital in the Midwest, and seventh in the nation, to install the Brainlab Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT technology for use during complex spinal and neurosurgical procedures, according to a report by The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The mobile intra-operative scanning system allows surgeons to register newly-acquired CT images and merge them with a patient’s preoperative scans, which lets them track and monitor their surgical instruments in real time.

“The new technology allows for detailed 3D pictures of the complex anatomy of the spine and the nerves and roots of the spinal cord to guide surgeons as they operate,” said spine surgeon George Miz, MD, to The Times of Northwest Indiana. “The Airo Mobile CT has the potential to change daily practice in the operating room, which is very important when you are talking about complicated spine and brain surgeries.”
