1. Felix Cheung, MD, associate professor and chief of the division of orthopedic oncology at Joan C Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va., performed the surgeries.
2. The patients were treated as part of its U.S. Lightfix clinical trial for the treatment of fractures in the humerus due to metastatic carcinoma.
3. The IlluminOss System uses minimally invasive technology that allows for fracture fixation through patient-specific intramedullary implants with a light-curable polymer contained within a balloon catheter.
4. The IlluminOss System has been successful in the treatment of more than 1,000 patients in Europe, where it is commercially available and has been in clinical use since 2010.
5. IlluminOss Medical is currently enrolling patients at other U.S. surgical sites in the Lightfix clinical trial.
