Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Matthews has more than 20 years of experience in global research, development and surgical orthopedics and cartilage repair.
2. In her new role, Dr. Matthews will oversee all clinical and medical affairs at Histogenics.
3. In addition to her role as scientist and researcher, Dr. Matthews is a speaker with experience in orthopedic and rheumatologic disease. She also has functional experience in cellular and gene therapy, biomaterials and growth factors.
4. She was recently senior director and global head of Bone and Joint Disease Research and Development at Genzyme, a Sanofi company. While there, she was involved in clinical and preclinical development of several orthopedic products.
5. Dr. Matthews is on the board of directors for the Orthopaedic Research Society and serves as the executive finance committee.
