Dr. Michael Ries publishes book on inventing new hip, knee replacement devices — 5 highlights

Michael Ries, MD, of Reno (Nev.) Orthopaedic Clinic, authored a new book titled, The Joint Kitchen.

1. The Joint Kitchen illustrates how to enhance hip and knee replacement devices.

 

2. Dr. Ries would imagine new devices from regular appliances he found in his kitchen. He would draw up his creations and turn them into patents for hip and knee replacements.

 

3. The book also outlines how a normal knee and hip function and the discrepancies between normal and replaced joints.

 

4. Dr. Ries has lectured at 600-plus orthopedic conferences, written 200-plus journal articles and authored 50 book chapters on total hip and knee replacement.

 

5. He holds 45 U.S. hip and knee replacement device patents.
