The IDEO, which stands for Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis, has been used on wounded soldiers to help them walk again. The device is a cross between a leg brace and a prosthetic leg. It redirects the pain of bearing weight from the injured leg to the device.
Researchers and physicians using the device on military personnel are preparing to introduce it to the civilian market, as well.
