Covidien Names Jose Almeida New President and CEO

Covidien has announced that Richard Meelia will retire as company president and CEO, effective July 1, according to a company news release.

Jose Almeida, current president of Covidien’s medical devices business segment, will succeed Mr. Meelia. Mr. Almeida joined Covidien, then known as Tyco Healthcare, in 1995. He was appointed to his current position as head of medical devices in Oct. 2006. The medical devices business accounts for about two-thirds of Covidien’s total annual revenue and three-quarters of its operating profit.
