Clinician receives prestigious prize for knee implant design

The German Society for Biomedical Engineering awarded Dr. Malte Assel the Klee Prize for 2020, recognizing his work in optimizing knee implant design.

Dr. Asseln’s research showed knee implant manufacturers need to develop more sizes than are currently produced to increase patient satisfaction with knee implants.

Patient dissatisfaction with the implants stems from the designs that don’t take patient-specific biomechanics into account.

The Klee Prize is given annually and comes with a monetary reward.
