Cervical disc replacement accounted for 3.2% of 153,601 cervical cases recorded from 2015 to 2024, despite a market with 14 FDA-approved devices and nearly 40 worldwide, according to an analysis from Spine Market Group citing the American Spine Registry’s 2026 report.

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion accounted for 62.2% of cases, while posterior fusion represented 24.5%, according to the analysis. The 3.2% share comes as manufacturers continue to compete in the cervical disc replacement market.

The analysis pointed to reimbursement, implant costs, indication criteria and surgeon familiarity with fusion as factors limiting broader cervical disc replacement adoption. It also cited Medicare data projecting primary cervical disc replacement volume at roughly 9,400 cases annually by 2035.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
