The study will examine patients suffering from back pain caused by symptomatic degenerative disc disease, and 100 total patients are expected to be enrolled, according to an Aug. 10 news release.
Neurosurgeon Steven Falowski, MD, enrolled the first patient and said he believes many of his patients could benefit from the treatment. He and Jason Pope, MD, are co-principal investigators in the study.
The Zip device works through a single surgical cut and acts as a fusion support column during procedures. It was approved by the FDA in 2013.
