The FDA-cleared device was developed for personalized spinal patient pathologies. The device features user-friendly tools to help surgeons preoperatively plan their procedures and order customized, industrially-produced rods to fit the specific spinal alignment needed for each individual patient. It eliminates manually contouring a rod during surgery.
“Understanding and restoring sagittal alignment is key towards providing better patient outcomes and preventing the need for reoperations, a major factor in rising healthcare costs,” said orthopedic surgeon Frank J. Schwab, MD. He performed the first procedure in the United States. “Having a more precise, personalized rod ready before even stepping foot in the operating room is a game-changer for spine surgery.”
There have been more than 100 procedures performed in Europe using the UNiD Lab with the patient-specific rod.
