Anika Therapeutics’ phase III trial for hip OA pain treatment awaits FDA approval: 5 quick facts

Anika Therapeutics has submitted an investigational device exemption with the FDA to conduct a phase III clinical trial.

Here are five quick facts:

 

1. The trial is intended to support the expanded use of MONOVISC to treat pain caused by hip osteoarthritis.

 

2. MONOVISC is a single injection viscosupplement comprised of non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid.

 

3. It is currently approved by the FDA to treat pain caused by osteoarthritis of the knee.

 

4. The study plans to enroll around 560 subjects across 20 investigational sites in the United States, beginning in 2015.

 

5. The study will be sponsored by DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine, Anika’s commercial partner and exclusive distributor of MONOVISC in the U.S.
