Allegheny Health Network surgeons are 1st in region to provide robot-assisted joint replacements

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network’s orthopedic surgeons have performed the region’s first robotic-assisted total hip and partial knee replacements using the MAKO Robotic Arm Interactive System.

Surgeons Timothy J. Sauber, MD; Michael Seel, MD; and Michael Pagnotto, MD, performed the first surgeries. The robotic system is designed to facilitate minimally invasive surgical techniques, and it uses a computed tomography scan of the patient’s joint to create a three-dimensional map of the surgical area.
