After a successful initial market release of the AccelFix-XL expandable lateral cage, Aegis now offers the new option with an angled inserter for lateral L4-5 surgery.

“Lateral lumbar interbody surgery for L4-5 is challenging because of the patient’s pelvic height. An angled instrument is essential for lateral IBD surgery. There aren’t other spine implant companies that manufacture an angled expandable cage inserter, but Aegis has developed this option very successfully.” says Dr. Fernando Villamil of The Orthopedic Center at CORE Hospital, Jenks, Oklahoma.

“I can see the clear benefit for the LLIF with the expandable cage. A severe degenerative disc is difficult to work with because of its narrow opening. The expandable cage is very useful because of its thin graft insertion abilities and simple height restoration system. Additionally, the expandable cage can adjust its height for the various patient’s disc spaces; otherwise static cages have limited height options of 10mm,12mm,14mm…”

Dr.Villamil is one of the most experienced LLIF surgeons in The U.S., with over 5,000 lateral operations.
