The report found leading vendors are outsourcing to manufacturers to save time. Instead, they focus time on design and development of new spinal implants. The result of this strategy enhances the companies’ dependence on contract manufacturers.
Here are the top six vendors:
1. Globus Medical offers fusion products designed to treat degenerative diseases, deformity as well as tumor and trauma conditions. The company focuses most of its efforts in the U.S. market. With a portfolio of more than 130 products for spine disorder treatment, Globus Medical is currently developing 30 new products.
2. Johnson & Johnson sells its orthopedic and neurological devices through its subsidiary, DePuy Synthes. The company’s portfolio includes products for internal and external fixation, pain management and minimally invasive procedures.
3. Medtronic offers products in this market through its restorative therapies group, which saw a revenue of $6.75 billion in fiscal year 2015. The company’s portfolio includes fixation systems designed to treat degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors, spine fractures, spinal deformity and stenosis.
4. NuVasive’s products are designed for cervical fusion procedures. The company’s acquisition of Ellipse Technologies will likely increase its revenue.
5. Stryker develops fixation systems and spacers for the market, selling through its neurotechnology and spine segment. The products are designed for minimally invasive endovascular techniques, spinal injury, deformity and degenerative therapies. In fiscal year 2015, this segment saw a revenue of $1.82 billion, with spine products bringing in $740 million.
6. Zimmer Biomet provides market products through its spine, craniomaxillofacial and thoracic segment. The company’s fixation systems, spacers and fusion devices are intended for patients with degenerative conditions. The segment brought in $404.4 million in fiscal year 2015.
