5 things to know about ApiFix’s new board chairman Ted Bird

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Mr. Bird will replace previous board chairman Zeev Bronfeld.

 

2. Mr. Bird is the chief development officer at the Medical University of South Carolina Institute for Applied Neurosciences.

 

3. He was previously president of Orthofix Spine Fixation and vice president of the U.S. Field Marketing and Strategic Development for DePuy Spine and vice president of global medical education, emerging technologies and marketing at Medtronic Sofamor Danek.

 

4. ApiFix is a commercial-stage company that developed a minimally invasive treatment alternative for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis that has the CE-mark.

 

5. A study published in a peer-review medical journal on the ApiFix system said there are several drawbacks to the current AIS surgery which are non-existent with ApiFix, including considerable blood loss, neurologic deficit, late infections, pseudoarthrosis limitation of spinal motion and back pain.

 

“Given that ApiFix is now positioned to fast-forward its substantial commercial opportunity, Ted Bird’s experience and success in the spine industry should prove fruitful as we prepare to raise our next round of financing to aggressively launch The Apifix System in Europe,” said CEO Uri Arnin.
