ExcelsiusGPS is designed to assist surgeons with the placement of pedicle screws, improve preoperative planning and boost operating room efficiency, according to Globus Medical. The navigation system creates a preoperative plan and helps surgeons visualize a patient’s anatomy in real-time during procedures.

Kyle Schmidt, MD, a neurosurgeon at Monument Health Orthopedic & Specialty Hospital, praised the robot for its potential to reduce tissue dissection and manipulation, decrease intraoperative radiation exposure and improve surgical accuracy.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality of care for our patients and staff and look forward to the exciting opportunities and the impact ExcelsiusGPS will bring to the field of spine surgery, robotics and navigation,” Dr. Schmidt said in a July 19 news release.
