Five details:
1. The hospital’s board of commissioners agreed during a Feb. 27 meeting to purchase an Aquamantys cautery unit for burning off small bleeds in orthopedic patients.
2. Priced at $25,950, the cautery unit uses radio frequency energy and saline for hemostatic sealing of soft tissue and bone.
3. The board also agreed to look into purchasing a robot for hip and knee procedures, although final approval to purchase the equipment is still pending.
4. So far, hospital administrators have considered buying Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology.
5. Orthopedic robots retail for about $1 million, but rebate offers Franklin Medical Center has received could drop the cost to about $600,000.
