Neurosurgeon debuts robotic-assisted cranial biopsy at Tennessee hospital

Robotics

Robert Rice, MD, recently completed the first tumor biopsy with the ExcelsiusGPS Cranial Solutions at Bristol (Tenn.) Regional Medical Center.

Globus Medical's robotic navigation platform combines streamlined MRI preoperative planning with robotic-assisted alignment for cranial stereotactic procedures such as stereoelectroencephalography, deep brain stimulation, biopsies and shunts.

Dr. Rice was able to make a 3.2 millimeter burr hole instead of a 12 millimeter hole to insert a navigated biopsy needle to retrieve specimens from the tumor, Globus Medical said in an April 26 LinkedIn post.
