Two spine surgeons recently performed Monmouth Medical Center's 100th robotic spine surgery, which they see as the future of the specialty, The Link News reports.
Steve Paragioudakis, MD, and Marc Menkowitz, MD, partnered on the Long Branch, N.J.-based hospital's landmark surgery using the ExcelsiusGPS robot, designed by Globus Medical.
The surgeons perform most of their cases together, using the robot to treat patients with conditions including degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, damaged discs and scoliosis.
"This is the wave of the future," Dr. Paragioudakis told the publication. "I think all spine surgeries will be done this way eventually."
Monmouth Medical Center was the second hospital in New Jersey to install the robot in October 2019.
The technology has allowed the surgeons to provide a more accurate, reproducible and safe procedure, according to Dr. Menkowitz.
