The Marcus Neuroscience Institute's first spine surgery using the Mazor robot was performed by Tim Miller, MD, ABC affiliate WPBF reported April 1.

Dr. Miller, director of functional neurosurgery at the Boca Raton, Fla.-based institute, lauded the robot for its ability to make spine surgery quicker, safer and more accurate.

Medtronic recently upgraded the Mazor robot by integrating its Midas Rex high-speed drills, which are designed to improve precision, disc-prep access and navigation, according to the company.

"Knowing that it's going to make the surgery easier for me and that things are going to be more accurate and the patient is going to do better, that brings a lot of peace of mind," Dr. Miller said.
