Intuitive Surgical, manufacturer of the da Vinci robotic surgical system, has honored Florida urologist Robert Carey, MD, PhD, for performing more than 2,000 robotic surgeries, the Herald-Tribune reported March 15.
Three things to know:
1. The da Vinci robot provides surgeons with multiquadrant access and is used for complex procedures in cancer, urology, gynecology and gastroenterology.
2. Dr. Carey's expertise spans a range of surgical techniques for prostate, bladder and kidney cancers, among other urologic conditions.
3. Since 2006, Dr. Carey, who practices with Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital, has completed more than 2,300 robotic surgeries.
