Reston (Va.) Hospital Center is offering augmented reality technology for spine surgeries, according to an Oct. 14 report from Reston Now.

The hospital will use the Augmedics Xvision Spine System to allow surgeons to see through a patient's anatomy, the report said. Staff told Reston Now the tool is the "first AR guidance system to be used in surgery."

The technology is approved for minimally invasive spine implant procedures, the report said.

"Bringing AR into the operating room has the possibility of leading to smaller incisions and less invasive procedures, which means less pain and faster recovery for patients," Christopher Good, MD, a spine surgeon affiliated with Reston Hospital Center, told Reston Now
