Arkansas hospital 1st in state to use spine robot — 3 insights

Robotics

Little Rock-based University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center is the first hospital in Arkansas to use the ExcelsiusGPS robotic spine navigation system, thecabin.net reports.

Three things to know:

1. Noojan Kazemi, MD, performed the first procedure with the robot.

2. The robot improves operational accuracy and reduces the invasiveness of spine surgery.

3. Dr. Kazemi said that while the robot has several features he was excited about , the promise of the robot's capabilities is what he finds most appealing, particularly its use as a teaching tool for future clinicians.

"UAMS is a teaching hospital and a research institution, and it is part of our mandate to stay at the forefront of innovation," he said.
