Ohio surgery center 1st ASC in state to install robotic system — 4 insights

Youngstown, Ohio-based The Orthopaedic Surgery Center installed Stryker's Mako system to assist surgeons during joint replacement procedures.

What you should know:

1. The Mako system allows surgeons to use 3D modeling to create a personalized plan for a joint replacement procedure. Surgeons can then use the system during the procedure to assist with executing that plan.

2. OSC is the first ASC in Ohio to install the robotic system.

3. The Mako can be used for total knee, partial knee and total hip replacements.

4. Surgery center COO Taylor Cera said the center added the robot to demonstrate its "commitment to provid[ing] the community with outstanding healthcare."
