Rural Nebraska hospital installs $1M robot for joint replacements — 3 things to know

Touchstone Orthopaedics at Geneva, Neb.-based Fillmore County Hospital installed Stryker's Mako System to assist surgeons during partial and total joint replacement procedures, reports Nebraska TV.

Three things to know:

1. The Mako robotic arm assists surgeons with proper implant placement and guards against soft tissue and ligament damage.

2. It develops a CT scan of the diseased hip or knee to create a 3D anatomic model.

3. Fillmore County Hospital is a county-owned 20-bed critical access hospital, which opened in March 2012.
