Stryker is on track to launch Mako spine in the middle of 2024. The robot will focus on pedicle screw placement, and CEO Kevin Lobo said in an earnings call that it is “a fabulous workflow, faster than what’s on the market today and smoother.”
Stryker will be joining an arena of spine robots that includes Globus Medical’s ExcelsiusGPS, Medtronic’s Mazor X Stealth and Alphatec’s Remi robot.
Mr. Scavilla addressed the anticipated competition in a Feb. 20 earnings call.
“We’ve got a robot that is superior,” Mr. Scavilla said, as transcribed by Motley Fool. “And we think that even with competition … that’s OK. You know, we’re set to poised in and compete this way. Part of doing this merger was to create the size and the reach in order to also not only penetrate faster but compete in this fashion. I think we’re well poised to go head to head with anybody in this sense. And while I would think about it, there may be more choices over the long term for our customers. That’s why you have to focus on driving innovation and putting products out that make meaningful differences.”
