Max Hodak announced May 1 via Twitter that he left Neuralink a few weeks ago.
“I learned a ton there and remain a huge cheerleader for the company!” he tweeted.
Mr. Musk and Mr. Hodak founded the company in 2016, according to CNBC, to develop a surgical robot with neuroscience applications. The robot is designed to stabilize a patient’s head during surgery and can map the patient’s brain to ensure appropriate needle placement. In February, Mr. Musk said Neuralink plans to begin human trials this year.
Long-term, the company said it aims to augment the human brain to keep up with artificial intelligence. Mr. Musk said he hopes the company’s devices can help parayzed people operate smartphones or robotic limbs and cope with autism and schizophrenia, according to CNBC.
