The robot allows surgeons to plan surgeries and operate with increased precision, the Port Huron, Mich.-based practice said in a July 31 news release shared with Becker’s. Dr. Makim, William Braaksma, MD; Scott Heithoff, DO, and Todd Murphy, MD, are all trained to use Mako SmartRobotics.
“It is tremendous for our region that we can offer patients this precise technology at our state-of-the-art Blue Water Surgery Center for outpatient procedures,” Dr. Makim said in the release. “With robotic assistance and enhanced surgical planning, I can dramatically reduce joint disruption and optimize implantation for less pain and a quicker recovery for patients.”
