Phoenix-based Abrazo Health’s Scottsdale Campus in Arizona has added two Mako SmartRobotics systems for orthopedic procedures.
The $1.5 million investment will support total and partial knee replacements, total and revision hip surgeries and certain procedures that previously required manual cutting. Beginning in 2026, the robots will also be used for total shoulder replacements, according to a Nov. 2 KTAR News report.
Abrazo Scottsdale was selected to participate in a limited market release of the Mako platform for total knee replacements. The system is designed to enhance surgical precision and improve recovery time compared to manual techniques.
Total knee replacements in the U.S. are expected to increase 85% from 2020 to 2030, though about 20% of patients report dissatisfaction after conventional surgery, according to the report.
