Mayo Clinic adds robot for knee, hip replacements

Robotics

Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn., installed a Mako robot for hip and knee replacements July 30, Mankato Free Press reports.

A start date for the robot has not been set as surgeons have yet to complete training with the technology.

Developed by Stryker, the robot helps surgeons plan procedures and then guides them through the plan intraoperatively.

The Mako system is designed to protect soft tissue and ligaments from damage.

Mayo Clinic Health System also added a DaVinci Xi robot for urology, gynecology and general surgery procedures.
