5 things to know about ASU, the Mayo Clinic partnership to transform healthcare education

Tempe-based Arizona State University is partnering with Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic to educate physicians in an attempt to help future generations reduce cost, simplify the system and save lives.

Here's what you should know.

 

1. The two organizations are jointly developing a curriculum through the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University Alliance for Health Care.

 

2. ASU President Michael Crow said the curriculum aims to create physicians "more broadly scoped and more empowered to change healthcare outcomes at the individual scale, change healthcare at the national scale and help us to afford this fantastic medical care that we all like."

 

3. The Mayo Clinic has a medical school in Scottsdale, Ariz. Classes will be offered to students earning their medical degree through the school, with an option of pursuing a master's degree program through ASU. Students will be able to earn a certificate in addition to their medical degree.

 

4. ASU is developing a 150,000 square foot facility that will house a medical technology incubator and biomedical engineering research labs.

 

5. The students at Mayo's Minnesota campus are also eligible for the certificate.
