Zimmer Biomet proposed cutting 580 jobs at its manufacturing plant in Winterthur, Switzerland, as part of a restructuring plan, according to a Sept. 10 report from MassDevice.

The company has begun a works council collective consultation to evaluate alternatives and limit job losses. Zimmer Biomet has not made a final decision on the restructuring. The proposed cuts would represent 3.4% of the 17,000 positions Zimmer Biomet listed in its most recent annual report.

The proposed changes are part of Zimmer Biomet’s manufacturing network optimization strategy and are intended to simplify its manufacturing footprint and supply chain, according to the report.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
