Brandon Scharer, DPM, a foot and ankle surgeon, is the first physician in Wisconsin to use the Apex 3D total ankle replacement system, according to an April 11 news release.

The Apex implant is made of custom metal components that replace damaged bone, and a high-grade plastic simulates natural cartilage to provide stability. It is designed for older patients with arthritic joints or post-traumatic ankle injury, the release said.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
