U.S. Ski & Snowboard is transitioning medical leadership ahead of the 2026-27 season, with two longtime team physicians stepping away from their roles and two new physicians joining the organization.

Tom Hackett, MD, is leaving his position as head team physician for the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team after more than two decades with U.S. Ski & Snowboard. He received the organization’s Julius Blegen Award shortly after the 2026 Olympic Winter Games and will continue to lead the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Council, according to a June 12 news release.

Andrew Cooper, MD,  is also stepping away after more than 12 years with the organization. He served as head team physician for the Stifel U.S. Freeski Team and provided medical support at Olympic Winter Games, World Championships, X Games and World Cup events.

The organization named Adam Wilson, MD, as the new head team physician for the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team. Dr. Wilson, an orthopedic surgeon based in Steamboat Springs, Colo., began working with U.S. Ski & Snowboard in 2016 and has traveled extensively with the snowboard team.

Joseph Ruzbarsky, MD, an orthopedic surgeon practicing at The Steadman Clinic in Aspen, Colo., will serve as assistant snowboard team physician and support athletes at competitions and other events.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
