UPMC expands international footprint with acquisition of orthopedic surgical hospital

Pittsburgh-based UPMC acquired a private hospital in Ireland that provides orthopedic surgical services, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Dec. 14.

Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny is a 71-bed facility with an 18-bed day surgery unit.

UPMC’s Ireland operations also include a sports medicine clinic, a cancer treatment center and a radiotherapy center in partnership with Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System.

The acquisition is pending approval by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
