Ishpeming, Mich.-based UP Health System-Bell has become the first system in the region to add the Persona IQ smart knee implant, according to a June 24 report from The Mining Journal.

The smart implant uses data collection built into the joint replacement technology to track patients’ recovery in real time, capturing metrics post-operatively, including relevant gait metrics such as functional knee range of motion, step count and sampled average walking speed, and sends them directly to the patient and physician via smartphone.

Persona IQ procedures at the system will be performed by orthopedic surgeon Zachary Leonard, MD.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
