Julia Katarincic, MD, has been named president of East Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics.

She was also appointed chief of orthopedics for Brown University Health and chair of the department of orthopedics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I., according to a July 9 news release shared with Becker’s.

Dr. Katarincic previously served as chief of University Orthopedics’ hand and wrist center, chaired the practice’s operations committee and was a member of its executive committee.

During Dr. Akelman’s tenure, University Orthopedics expanded into Massachusetts, recruited physicians and advanced practice providers and broadened its orthopedic specialty services. Dr. Akelman will remain with the practice as a physician focused on patient care.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
