East Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics has opened the Center for Clinical Optimization to help patients improve their health before orthopedic procedures such as spine surgery, hip replacement and knee replacement.
The program supports both surgical and nonsurgical patients through personalized care plans focused on weight management, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, diabetes control, strength and conditioning and bone and muscle health, according to a May 6 news release.
The program is designed to improve surgical outcomes, recovery times and long-term mobility by helping patients address underlying health conditions before treatment.
For some patients, the program may include medically supervised weight loss plans or guidance on GLP-1 medications while maintaining muscle strength and nutrition. The center also works with patients who are not yet physically ready for surgery by helping them build strength and conditioning beforehand.
At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
