Trellis Bioscience, a clinical-stage biotechnology company, closed a $9 million Series C financing round to support completion of its phase 2 trial of calpurbatug, an investigational monoclonal antibody therapy for chronic prosthetic joint infections.
The financing included participation from existing investors New Science Ventures and Easton Capital, along with new investors including the AMR Action Fund, The Doctor Group and several orthopedic surgeons specializing in prosthetic joint infections, according to a July 16 news release.
The funding brings Trellis’ total equity financing to about $35 million. Calpurbatug is designed to disrupt bacterial biofilms that protect infections from antibiotics. The therapy is being evaluated as an addition to debridement, antibiotics and implant retention procedures for chronic prosthetic joint infections, which affect more than 25,000 patients annually in the U.S. and currently have no FDA-approved drug treatment.
The phase 2 trial is fully enrolled, with topline results expected in the second quarter of 2027. The therapy has received FDA Orphan Drug, Fast Track and Qualified Infectious Disease Product designations.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
