Surgeons at Houston-based Fondren Orthopedic Group at Texas Orthopedic Hospital performed the first total knee arthroplasty in the U.S. using the Velys Robotic-Assisted Solution with AutoPlan technology.
Ugo Ihekweazu, MD, chief of adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery at Fondren Orthopedic Group and Texas Orthopedic Hospital, shared the milestone in an Aug. 24 LinkedIn post.
DePuy Synthes developed the Velys system Dr. Ihekweazu and his partners used to perform the procedures.
The technology is designed to support surgical planning, efficiency and precision during robotic knee replacement, according to the post.
