St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Lufkin (Texas) has become the first system in the East Texas region to use Zimmer Biomet’s Persona IQ total knee implant, according to a May 27 report from The Lufkin Daily News.

The procedure was performed May 12 by orthopedic surgeon Jason Carter, MD. Dr. Carter is a partner at SLHM and a surgeon at Dedicated Orthopedics in Lufkin.

The Persona IQ device is a smart knee implant that captures patient metrics post-operatively, including relevant gait metrics such as functional knee range of motion, step count and sampled average walking speed, and sends them directly to patients and physicians via smartphone.
